11:00-11:45am: Closing Keynote by Robert Pease, Ph.D. – Addiction vs. Spirituality: When Worlds Collide (1 CEC)

The conflicted spiritual journey of the addict to experience an alternative to the present circumstances of life and attain a different realm through a misguided and ultimately self-

destructive attempt to reach an unknown level of “nirvana” is presented. In spiritual terms the addict is a Seeker in search of any experience connecting them to a higher experience but

travels a path of self-destruction through alcohol and chemical tolerance. In this experience all worlds collide within the disconnected self to alleviate the “pain body” by “getting high”

only to Finding Freedom Symposium 2017 diminish and depersonalize the pathway to experience joy from within often magnified from a co-occurrence disorder such as mental illness,

drug abuse and bi-polar diagnosis.

films including Sacred Journey of the Heart. As a trans-personal counselor, his lectures, counseling, writings, clinics and workshops including his Best Selling Books, Spiritual

About the Conference

The Finding Freedom Symposium is about bringing forward relevant information for best practices in supporting the LGBTQ community with co-occurring disorders. Our intention is to offer a container for discovery and focused discussion to find effective solutions for professionals and their LGBTQ patients.

Our goal is to cultivate a conversation that will lead to clinical, research-based information. We are gathering the dynamic leaders in the field of LGBTQ addiction treatment to spark the conversation. We will take current information as the starting place for integrative workgroup sessions. The afternoon work groups will develop an action plan with 36 points for consideration for next year’s event.

The conference is open to the community, treatment professionals, doctors, therapists and anyone who is interested in the unique issues facing sexual identity and co-occurring disorders treatment. We invite you to join for education, conversation and connection.
